  16. remain billionaires. Daniel Ludwig, a Michigan-born high-school
  17. dropout turned shipping magnate, did just that. He lost a bundle
  18. in a vast forestry project in the Brazilian Amazon a decade
  19. ago, and yet when he died at 95 last week in Manhattan he was
  20. still worth $1 billion or so.
